How do we know if a person is overweight or obese?
Two main ways: Body mass index and waist circumference.
Body mass index is done by taking a person’s weight and dividing it by the square of his or her height (kg/m2). The normal range is between 18.5 and 24.9. Overweight is 25-29.9, and obese is 30 and above.
Waist circumference: This is done by using a tape to measure the size of one’s waist.

Some Doctors and Nutritionist argued that obesity is not about unhealthy eating habit or not being active enough, but that other things should be blamed such as genetics, certain diseases and medication. It is true that these things add to weight gain and obesity. However, evidence show that weight gain and obesity are largely due to unhealthy eating habit and lack of exercise.
